I'm really thrilled that Tangie Baxter asked me if I would write a little bit about my book for her blog. I did and also created a PDF of how to do the pages with doors in them. You can read it and get the PDF on her blog, Studio Tangie Baxter. While you're there check out all the other great stuff she has! Maybe you'll want to join in on the Caravan for next year, it's lots of fun! Here are a couple of pages I did featuring Mandalas. I drew the mandalas myself, which is a lot easier than it looks. I made one petal (using the pen tool in Photoshop) and then copied it eight times, rotating it each time to form a circle. I then duplicated all eight, sent them to the back and rotated again to make the back layer of petals. I used my wacom tablet and pen to fill in the shapes with doodles. I did the doodling on a separate layer. Then I filled each group of shapes with a neutral color and copied each group to a layer to make a template that I could clip papers too. After that I just clipped the papers I wanted to each shape group. I hope that makes sense. I'll try and do a little tutorial when I get a minute.

I never posted any photos of the finished book, Portals, so here they are! I'm really please with it. It came out pretty much just the way I pictured it in my head when I was designing it.

I've been terrible about updating.

Anyway, the quest for May was Portals and I pondered it for a while before this idea came to me. It's an actual book. It's not done yet but it's close. It's 12 pages. Each page has a door or window in it that reveals the page below. You can open all of the doors and windows (except one.) It's been a challenge! I have the pages all printed and engineered. Now I'm going to embellish the pages and then bind it.

This is the only way I could think of to share it. I have two slideshows, one with photos of the actual book, the other of the page files. When looking at the files you see a page, and the next page is the back of that page and so on.

And the final batch:

Next batch of letters:

Here are the pages for the last few of weeks. I was really happy to be able to do the cover for Sean and Connor's new book and worked that into one of the pages. The one for Amused was fun, I couldn't decide on a paper so I used them all! (okay, I didn't use them all, but I used a lot.)

I've been working on the February Adventure Quest, which is The Adjective Project. We're to come up with an adjective that describes us for each letter of the alphabet and create a project using them. I'm nearly done! I'm working on 'V' right now. They are sort of hybrid scrapbook/art journal style but they are my style so that's okay. Here is the first batch, more to follow.
